What irritates me the most about the GC backlog is not knowing exactly how many people are in line ahead of me.
We all know how many visas (without spillovers, etc.) are allocated to each country every year, but none of us knows exactly how many GC applications/PDs for each year are pending, which makes it extremely difficult to even semi-accurately predict when a certain PD will become current and stay current.
When I ask myself when I will get my GC, the answer is, "anywhere between the next month to the next 3 years", which is sad to say the least.
That being said, I commend the core team's efforts in pursuing this option.
I was looking at my paypal history and for some reason (problems with downloading history), was only able to see the $50 recurring contributions that I have made (I was on a $20 recurring contribution schedule before I started the $50, and I have made numerous, $50, $100 one time contributions during various funding drives) to IV, and that total was $1000 (20 months), I expect the total from all my contributions to be close to $2000.
It may sound like I am tooting my own horn, but the intention of this disclosure is to motivate other members to start contributing. There used to be a time when I felt that if I contributed, I would be the only one doing so, and things wouldn't go anywhere and I would end up wasting my money. Boy, was I wrong. There are thousands of members who contribute and it is because of the support of these very members that we have achieved what we have.
Hey, atleast this way, when I whine about the situation, no one can tell me that I should do something about it and not whine, because I have done something about it, I have contributed !!
I have had an EAD for the last two years, and it was only because of IV efforts in July 2007that I was able to get one, and ask any of the newer members that haven't filed their 485s yet, they would spend $2000 in a heartbeat if that guaranteed being able to file their 485s.
That being said, I pledge to contribute $50 for the FOIA drive as soon as an option is made available on the IV contributions page.
Best,

I am not seeing similar outrage as we saw last year.
The time to act is now.
Because many of us the green cards ..so the fire got extinguished. I am ready to write letter to Zoe. Can the following be the rough draft ? Also, does anybody have the address where it can be sent ?
One more thing, if you think this thread will become very long editing this letter, feel free to use collaboration by visiting the link http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd4vkcmm_119vmrj2gfs and editing the letter. Please keep a local copy also just in case some mischievous element wipes it off.
Dear Zoe Lofgren,
Once again we wanted your help in getting the broken and unorganized process of green card streamlined. In July, 2008 USCIS announced that the people with priority dates upto June 2006 are eligible to have their I485 applications processed. When the time actually came to process them.
1. Instead of processing them according to the priority dates, they started processing them randomly (although the claim is that they process them according to received dates which is neither true not justified even if it was true) causing people who have been waiting for years(Many of them since 2003 or 2003) to not get their green card and the people who had their priority dates as late as 2006 were issued the green cards.
2. In the middle of August, they unofficially put the processing on hold (no official announcement to prevent the situation/lawsuit as the last year).
3. The customer service is totally inconsistent in giving individual answers. We get different answers at different times and most of them are either incomplete or unsatisfying. They also direct us to write letter to the service center directly which results in the response asking us to check website or call 1.800 number none of which again inform the real status of the case. In other words, it is a never ending loop.
Please help us in resolving the problem as you did last year.
Thanks.

thanks for the response.
The only reason i got worried was that a friend applied on the 23rd and got hers yesterday. We both applied in the same center too.
I just hope that paperwork is there and hasent been lost or something.

So we're not really expecting a response???!!!
yes, we are definitely expecting a response and thats why we are stating the timeline.
At minimum, we definitely need to higlight with details as to how USCIS is playing with us.
Nobody can predict whether we will get a response or not. But, we definitely need to satisfy ourselves that we fought till the last.
2 or 3 years back, nobody expected IV to achieve anything. Look what IV has achieved today. It only happened through relentless protests.
During July fiasco, everybody was resigned to getting their 485 files returned back. The force of IV protest made the reversal.
I am confident that with lots of protests, USCIS will churn out a few approvals in the last week of September. At least, guys who got RFE can expect something. I am not one of them, though, as my file has not been picked up at all. that is a different issue.

You are "theMen" and "theWomen" as well. I have been advocating your role in obtaining relief for many of us here. Obviously some free riders and doubting thomases are still there, but once again, congratulations on a job well done.

What Sanju posted is not off the mark. And I agree with Wandmaker. The person who came up with this idea needs to PM or e-mail Pappu or Administrator and get some feedback if IV Core supports this. If you get the yay from Pappu, then form a small core group who will tacke the operational aspect of this idea and keep it moving forward. The "posts" need to be coverted to "actions". I am just speaking from experience having run a successful year long campaign with IV already. Best of Luck!

Jim77,
I was under the same impression. I didn't want to change the address...but i did today....
If you do not change your address you will not receive any mails from USCIS as USPS does not forward "Return Service Requested" official mails. The reason being anyone can forward an address...and it may fall in wrong hands.
You will neither receive any notices like finger printing and neither will you be able to renew your AP or EAD when the time comes....since those will have your old addresses on file.

I agree. There is a lot that can be done. Ledearship has to make an appeal to the members...
I am sorry to say this Pappu, but honestly I do feel one thing. There are some things that IV can do without spending money(which I think are not being done). For example, it can lead everybody everybody to send letters to USCIS and congressmen and the press for justice highlighting abrupt actions of USCIS. I made so many pamphlets in the thread "Lets get Organized" which can be sent alongwith to make an impact. It is not about eb2 or eb3, it is about accountability and transparency from USCIS. It does not involve any money from anybody excepting a 41 cents stamp on the letter which I think most of people should be ready to spend. However, the push from IV seems to be missing.

Hi PotatoEater !!
What you said may be true for case like some who really applied in Nov 01 is waiting and someone who applied in Jul 07 with a substituted labor of Sep 01 got it. It ends there.
Those are a few lucky fellows, but did it legally.
That doesnt solve much of the backlogs problem even if that didnt happen. Analyze the situation in May 07. It was horrible, right.
It was luck AILA and other groups including IV could contribute to keep the dates current for that month, for our benefit

I am too sure you can get away with it. You are at fault for the below reason.
1) Employing a person without checking their immigration status is an offense.
2) It can come back and haunt you as you helped her in tax evasion. Employer by law MUST report to IRS for any compensation paid.
3) Since the lady is going down, she might take you along with her...What will you do if the lady tells the cops that "she told you that she cannot work here legally and you told her that it is OK and I will pay you in cash"... It becomes a story of she said and he said. They have enough proof of you not legally employing her.
Ignorace of a law is NOT an excuse.
I might be totally wrong on this.. Check with a attorney.

I feel that both quotas are over on 2nd/3rd. out of 33K counter 5K are masters cap. out of 150K-170K wont there be 20K? My answer is yes. The only added advantage is any of the folks who filed under masters quota and didnt win the lottery in 20K will get another lottery chance at the normal cap.

What about the people who got RFEs for 485?
Do you guys think the visa numbers are counted for those people or not:confused::mad::o:(
RFE cases, have very good chance that a visa number is counted towards it. Since, case was opened for processing.

I agree farming is fun! I did farming when I was young back in INDIA!
Recently I toured entire US except a few states by road. I saw people doing farming in huge lands like other professions. I saw one community from india owning lots of motels/hotels! To my surprise 20/25 motels we stayed were owned by people of indian origin and most were immigrants.
To all who claim to be stuck in GC queue I strongly suggest a US road trip. It will show you parts of USA which you have not seen as well as relax ur mind.
Agree... and this will also increase your awarness. It's a beautifull country and you will enjoy the diversity and resourcefulness. Go mid-west!

Sad, but true, the substitution labor are utilizing the visa numbers a lot.. Not sure if any thing can be done @ this time.... There were lots of new people filed I-140/I-485 utilizing substitution labor in July / Aug 07 as the LC substitution was sunset after wards... Though it is legal  they could have made the PD, they day I-140 was filed, since they allow to retain original PD, now people who really waited are forced to wait even longer.... Now that the program is sunset and also many people already jumped the line, do not see any advantage in complaining about it and expect no administrative reaction to this as labor sub no longer exist... Only solution to retro... is unused visa recapture / increase visa number / exclude dependent / etc... none of these can happen without intervention from congress.... which required very intense lobbying... which in turn requires $$$$ ... and more participation and contribution from the members seems to be the only option that could help all... If you don't help yourself.. no one would !!!
