I had to answer as NO as i live in northeastern PA... the poll should have had an option "I would love to but I live too far away.. but I'll be there in spirit" .. :)

Sending letters is a waste of time. I did many in the past and nothing happened. We will only make post office richer and lose money on postage. Nobody reads or replies to letters.

Anyone willing to do hunger strike?

I agree. A few people sending letters does not make a difference. But if the 25-50K participants of IV send a letter everyday, it will make a difference. And we will send letters and emails to to all possible media outlets, especially immigration supporters like Larry Kudlow telling them that we are doing this....and if we dont get any responses, we will let the media outlets know that we are not getting any responses.

This is just to get the ball rolling. The ideas about rallying and hunger strike will continue development. There should always be activity. No lull period.

I urge people to participate and send letters. We can setup an email group for people who are planning to send letters with a reminder to send letters.

If you are sending two letters a day, its 90 cents a day, 27 dollars a month and 324 dollars a year.

Is 324 dollars not worth avoiding everyday hassles of immigration, moving to new jobs, new opportunities.

    Please folks...lets do this....

    LETS DO THIS

    investing on IT?

are they just adding equipments or are they migrating to a new system? i hope they are not migrating so that they don't have to deal with the learning curve.
one of the Justification for Fee increase given by USCIS Director was for investing in hiring new personel and e-processing. I guess they will try to convert some of the applications to filed electronically , which would free up their resources , who will probably focus on backloggs

    Offcourse this is my thought.:D

    Hello,

With hard 7% limit per country; our numbers within EB category are at 10,000 (it's not a huge number even if we apply 7% on EB+FB).

There are at least 250,000 people waiting on GC from India alone, at this rate it will take 25 years.

Am I wrong, I really hope I'm terribly wrong.

Point 1: We need to target news media here in the US primarily, not abroad. All good publicity is welcome, though. Please see a new thread started today by one of the moderators called "Ideas to increase Publicity of IV." There are key action items outlined there that every member can help out with.

Point 2: What will be shared (and with whom) will be decided soon by the core group. We used to send out regular updates, but that has suffered lately because we are all volunteers and some volunteers who were in charge of it are tied down with other things at work and home.

Point 3: We are already talking to people in academia and the academies.

Point 4: No member is "discounted." All are welcome, but we really need non-paying members to start chipping in money. What people decide to contribute is their business, and entirely theirs. Whether it is $20 or $50 or $100 or $500...that is entirely the call of the individual. This activity is not cheap, rather it requires a steady cash flow. We are obligated under the laws to hire a CPA and everything will be handled and accounted for.

    Hi rheoretro,

First of all I commend your and everyone in putting their effort. I totally agree with you that we need more people and money. I think people are first to come and money will automatically follow.

While word-of-mouth is effective we can augment this to get attention using other means:

    1. We can persuade news portals to advertise for our cause in a corner that might help us to get more people. Most Indians I know read Indian news everyday. If we can convince e.g., eenadu.net a telugu newspaper, to run ads we can get attention of lot people.

    2. Please start selling the current acheivements that are not confidential. Like you might have been successful in persuading a high profile senator about this problem. Put his quotes on our site and also possible grab attention from bloggers.

    3. If we can also tap academia who support skilled immigration that would help us. Let us put there studies in our reference section (I am assuming we didn't do this yet). This
makes senator to reference our site and make their lives easy.

    4. Please do not discount freewill members who do not have a GC problem but savor
helping others with immigration problem. It could be Americans or Immigrants we'll get them all in.

I think these actions will help us grow our strength. I know it is easy said than done. I will send a mail to rediff and eenadu to put our banner on their frontpage. If anyone has contacts working for these website. That will make it whole lot easier.

    -Kishore.

I called my attorney after seeing this thread. This is what I heard from him.

We have not received it back from CIS. We have not received any of them back that we filed. CIS said it will unequivocally reject them. But as of Monday they have decided not to send some back (many were already sent back) pending some internal decision-making about how to handle them. We would let you know if anything happened.
lawyer says "many were already sent back " did any body who filed on 2nd July got there application back ??

Was a recurring contributor. $50 per months nearly contributed $600/-

Stopped contributing when the CIR 2007 failed, lost hope in the system, I am sorry for that.

Now after seeing the efforts of the member in the flower campaign and sanjose rally, I am getting my confidence back and started my subscription again for $50 per month.

    Will do additional contributions.

No single person needs to spend $64000/- for the community, which are supposed to have a decent earning and educated.

Everyone legal immigrant now has some debt to pay to Aman and IV.

Please help yourself by making a little contributions, if we 15,000 active members and everyone is contributing $10 per month, it will be 150,000 dollors, which is a good amount for lobbying. I am sure everyone can afford this amount monthly.

Start contributing, and let us make our dream realized.

    Anand's post
Ok, if advertising is too far-fetched, then hold some cultural events and make money on those. Brainstorm with members to find other ways to make money. People are not going to contribute. That is the writing on the wall. There is lack of trust and lack of faith in IV. IV will have to figure out ways to generate cash from other things than member contributions. If I remember correctly, people contributed nearly $200K and have got nothing to show for that.

Attack my ideas and not me. Then we can have a debate conducive to achieving our goals.

Good man, true... people who have contributed and have not seen any results. I was searching for Logiclifes post where he mentioned
"It is time that IV shows some results", I will search and put it on my another post.

Anai mentions about Gandhi giri. He/she claims fighting for GC is the same as Independence.
"Waik up". You can't go on the streets and say this is our right (get GC) and fight for it. India was and is our country that is why we did it.

People will curse me now, would say why I am still hear if I am against.
I am against the policy, the strategy being used. IV said asking for 90000 unused visa numbers will add more controversy and It will be difficult to pass in the approp bill.
Lot of members did not agree, we went for I-485 because IV mentioned
this is the only thing that can be pushed easily.

Now when they see a chance to push for Schedule A worker visa increase, we start pushhing for visa numbers.(1-485 gone now)

Think for a while that there might be so many organizations supporting illegal immigrants that has plenty of money and are unable to pass anything.
They protested on the streets..president pushed for a reform and what happened. Most lawmakers do not have any Idea about legal issues,
so these law makers can and will only attach our reforms to the comprehensive bill.

Why can't people think in a broader prespective.

So why we bother now and say we are pushing for this ... that ... and when we could not get any results we hear from IV that the text of the bill is decided way in advanced.

    Anand's post -- True
These suggestions are because you think money is the issue. I don't think it is. It's the lack of good leadership.

When leaders change their stand often then it is a problem

    Hi when485,

Our PDs are close.Mine is jul-06 eb3/I. My family's all 485s had a soft LUD on 03/31/2009 and today 04/01/2009. I am thinking it could be because of 2nd finger print notices for our family.

My attorney received the RFE yesterday (just under a week after the email notification) (and I haven't received anything directly yet).

They wanted copies of the original I-485 and G325A forms (for both my wife and me), filed in Aug. '07, signed again.
Nothing changed or updated, just our signatures above the "signatures" the attorney/representative put in the original forms for us, in 2007.

Hopefully this is all they want and not more once they receive this...fingers crossed, not holding breath! :)

As per our lawyers, right now USCIS is in the process of entering our applications in their system (for date of receipt and such). There was a memo from USCIS saying that they will be done with the job of data entry by August 1.

From August 1, we can expect either rejection or acceptance of the actual application. The hope is that a court/congressional intervention before August 1 will change the USCIS action of rejection into acceptance.

    Flowers to Condi; any body?

    Cheers,
    h1techSlave
